Sand is the more versatile of the two Shangra colourways and the harder one to place well. A pale warm neutral disappears against a limestone benchtop or an oak shelf, which can be exactly right, but it needs a darker plant or a contrasting surface to register at all.
Handmade variation is more visible on a pale glaze than a dark one. Slight differences in coating thickness show as faint tonal shifts across the body, which is the evidence of the hand rather than a defect, and it is worth expecting on delivery.
Buying both colourways is the obvious move at this size. Two pots of one form in cocoa and sand read as a pair immediately, and small pots almost always look better in twos than alone.
