The detail behind the silhouette
Bamboo silk is a viscose made from bamboo pulp, and it is in this blend for one reason: sheen. It reflects light along the length of each fibre, so a rug containing it changes tone as you walk around it, which is the shimmer that distinguishes this from a matte wool.
Jute supplies what bamboo silk lacks. Viscose is weak when wet and crushes underfoot; jute is coarse, strong and stable, so the blend gets the lustre of one fibre and the durability of the other.
That blend also sets the care. Neither fibre likes water, and viscose in particular marks permanently if it is wet-cleaned, so this belongs in a living room or bedroom rather than an entry or a dining room.
Material: 60% bamboo silk, 40% jute, with a cotton backing
Construction: Handwoven cut pile
Pile depth: 14mm
Colour: Fossil, earthy brown with subtle colour gradations
Origin: Handwoven in India
Vacuum gently without a beater bar. Do not wet-clean: viscose marks permanently with water. Blot spills immediately and use a specialist rug cleaner.
