The piece
The detail behind the silhouette
A white planter outdoors reflects light back up into the foliage above it, which is the opposite of what a dark pot does. In a shaded courtyard that is genuinely useful, because the plant reads as brighter than the position would otherwise allow.
The trade is maintenance. Pale surfaces show algal green in damp shade and dust in dry sun, so a white pot wants either an airy position or a willingness to wipe it down more often than a black one.
At 23cm this is a small vessel for outdoors, which suits it to a step, a ledge or a table rather than the ground. Small pots at ground level disappear among planting; raised, they read.
