A large pale planter is the strongest tool available for lifting a dark outdoor corner. It reflects rather than absorbs, so both the vessel and the planting above it read brighter, and in a shaded courtyard that is worth more than any amount of additional planting.
The pairing with the small version of the same planter is the intended use and it works because the proportions are consistent. The large and the small side by side establish a clear hierarchy, which two similar sizes never manage.
Choosing white outdoors is choosing to clean it. Expect to clean it more often than a grey or black pot, particularly in a damp or shaded position, and site it where there is some air movement if that matters.
