Fluting on a 184cm front is proportion rather than decoration. A flat case that long reads as a wall; vertical ribs break the light across it and the piece looks shallower and less heavy than its footprint.

At 45cm deep the interior takes dinner plates flat, which is the test a 40cm case fails. At 80cm high the top is level with a kitchen bench, so it serves as well as stores.

The caveat is cleaning. Fluting collects dust in every groove and a cloth rides over the top of the ribs, so a soft brush is the tool. That is the price of the texture, and it is worth knowing before rather than after.
