The Air Dining Table is 220cm long, 100cm wide and 76cm high, with a solid oak top in a square edge profile on oak veneer legs. A clear varnish keeps the grain visible. It seats up to eight with minimal assembly.

A solid top with veneered legs is a sensible allocation of material rather than a compromise. The top is what gets used, cut on, wiped and eventually sanded back, and solid timber is the only surface that survives that; legs take no wear at all and gain nothing from being solid except weight.

A square edge is the least forgiving profile and the most contemporary. There is no radius to soften a knock, so the corners will mark over the years, but the line stays crisp in a way a rounded edge never does, and on a plain rectangular table that line is most of the design.

A clear varnish rather than an oil is the lower-maintenance choice. Oil needs periodic refreshing and shows water rings; a varnish is a film over the timber that takes a spill without comment, at the cost of a slightly less tactile surface.
