The wave pattern in the base is made using time-honoured Javanese weaving techniques, and it is the reason to choose this over a table with a plain plinth. Rather than a solid block, the base has movement and shadow in it, which is what gives a low round table presence at floor level.
The hollow base is a quieter feature and a useful one. It takes throws, magazines or games out of sight without a lid or a drawer to operate. At 100cm across this is the extra large of three sizes, so it needs a generous seating arrangement around it rather than a compact lounge. The natural tone suits organic modern, coastal and boho rooms, where the woven texture reads as continuous with other natural materials.
