The removable top is the feature that justifies this over a conventional coffee table. Underneath sits an open woven body, so the piece doubles as concealed storage for throws, magazines or the clutter that otherwise lives on the floor beside a sofa.
That also lets it change function entirely. Top on, it is a table. Top off, a basket. Cushion on top, an ottoman. In a small living room where every piece has to justify its footprint, that flexibility is worth more than a dedicated table would be. Abaca is a banana-family fibre, tougher and more moisture-resistant than most natural weaves, which is why it survives use as a structural body rather than only a decorative surface.
