A pedestal coffee table solves the problem of a small room. One central support means chairs and feet can come at it from any direction without meeting a leg, and it can be pushed close to a sofa without anything catching underneath.
The inset top is the detail that lifts it above a plain disc on a stem. Recessing the centre by 19mm within a 35mm edge creates a shallow lip, which keeps a remote or a set of coasters from sliding off and gives the top a shadow line rather than a flat face. At 80cm across it suits a two or three seater; in front of a long sofa it would look undersized. The 450mm base is broad enough that leaning on the rim will not tip it.
