The detail behind the silhouette
In “Between Us,” celebrated photographer Vincent Lagrange offers a moving visual homage to the dignity, emotion, and innate humanity of our animal kin. This powerful collection features a series of soulful portraits — both in colour and black and white — that illuminate the unique personality of each subject, from domestic companions to exotic creatures.
Drawing from classical human portraiture techniques, Lagrange captures animals with a depth that feels almost spiritual. The result is a breathtaking celebration of empathy and connection, inviting us to see animals not as “other” but as beings worthy of our reverence and protection. His photographic style, honed in his father’s studio and shaped by his bond with his cat Dwiezel, is both intimate and masterfully composed.
With international acclaim — including a cover image for National Geographic — Lagrange’s ongoing Human Animal Project continues to raise awareness for animal welfare and conservation.
